If you have diabetes, your body cannot make enough insulin or cannot use it properly. Insulin is a hormone produced by your pancreas. When you eat carbohydrates in foods such as potatoes and rice, your body breaks down those carbohydrates into glucose. Glucose is a type of sugar found in the bloodstream. Insulin is responsible for conducting the glucose into your body’s cells to be used as energy. Unfortunately, diabetes can interfere with this critical function.
